Shutter Design and Construction
Every shutter we make is completely custom built to the measurements of your window. We use precision equipment, professional tools, and quality wood to build each shutter.
Plantation shutters have a distinct and elegant style. To view a diagram of an interior plantation shutter, click here.
Design
The diagram here illustrates our two framing options when viewed from above. We use a frame to mount the shutter because:
- Frames are sturdy and give the shutter more strength
- No light leaks through the edges of the frame.
- Only the louvers allow light through.
Z Frame
- Covers any imperfections in window proportions
- Blocks out all light around window edges
- Gives the shutter a picture framed look
- Needs 1 1/4" clearance around the window opening
L Frame
- Used if any obstructions such as chair rails or molding are present
- Light blocked with caulk around edges
Mounting method
Our shutters are an "inside" mount, which means our frame is attached to the inside of the window opening. We also feature rabbitted and mortised shutters, features that further reduce light leakage.
